A configurable, pre-progammed unit for creating a user interface. These building blocks aim to increase consistency and streamline development.
There are five classes of UI building blocks:

For example, pattern elements combine to form patterns, and patterns combine to form floor plans. However, workplace floor plans and application floor plans are exceptions because application floor plans do not combine to form workplace floor plans; rather, they are launched from within workplace floor plans.
Each class of UI building blocks corresponds to a certain generic level of a user's work. For example, a floor plan corresponds to an activity, a pattern corresponds to a task within that activity, and a pattern element corresponds to a task step. Specifically, a floor plan could support the activity of processing sales orders, and a pattern within that floor plan could support the task of searching for the right sales orders.
