REFERENCE MODEL explained:
Representation of an external data system in PM.Designer. The structure and properties correspond to the product model, but unlike the product model it cannot be instanced in PM.Designer. This means that it is not possible to create product modules from a reference model.
The reference model describes the data model used as the base for a live system, for which product data is defined in PM.Designer.
