BROKEN CHARACTER explained:
Characters must be truncated by the text processing command f.e. when a text is too long for an input or output field.
A broken character results when only the second byte of a double-byte character is truncated. Both bytes must be truncated, otherwise the remaining half-byte is interpreted as a character.
