COMMON CHARACTER SET explained:
(Unicode Conversion) Preparation of non-Unicode system with transaction SPUMG.
SPUMG Settings -> Common Character Set:
SPUMG specific enhancement of 7bit ASCII area. Sum of all alphanumeric characters which use the same byte sequence in every code page that is installed in the non-Unicode system.
Ex.:
In SAP code page 1100 (Latin-1) the character <ü> is represented by byte 0xC3. In SAP code page 1401 (Latin-2) the character <ü> is also represented by byte 0xC3. This means that <ü> is in the common character set of the code pages 1100 and 1401. As a result, it doesn't matter, which of the two source code pages is used for the conversion of<ü> to Unicode.
