Part of the text environment. Defines the langauage and country-specific characteristics of characters such as sort sequence and implementation of upper and lower case. The locale characteristics in non-Unicode systems are dependent on the operating system of the current application server. In Unicode systems they are defined in a library that is independent of the operating system.
